Maternity Services Coming to Inspira Mullica Hill Inspira is renowned for offering the most advanced treatments in maternal/child health. And nowhere will this be more evident than at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill, a new facility scheduled to open this fall that will feature the most state-of-the-art technology, services and accommodations for pregnant women and their families. According to Shannon Campbell, director of Design & Construction, design work on Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill began in 2015 and involved a broad cross-section of architects, staff members and physicians. “As a result of these sessions, we designed a 20-bed unit with 16 ‘LDRPs’ (Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum Rooms), two antepartum/postpartum rooms, two observation beds and two operating rooms for cesarean sections,” Campbell said. “All rooms are private and each LDRP is programmed with its own personal refrigerator, sleeping accommodations for a support person and a jetted tub to assist the mom during labor.” In addition, she said, “all rooms will be outfitted with smart-room technology, which incorporates patient education into the TV and will project information about staff and physicians (name, position, etc.) as they enter the patient’s room.” “In addition to maternity ward patients being supported by an experienced team of physicians and certified nurse midwives, the availability of comfortable overnight accommodations will enable the whole family to participate in the birth experience,” said Robin Taylor, MSN, RN-BC, nurse manager of the new facility. “At the same time, maternity floor services such as hydrotherapy, nitrous oxide inhalation, aromatherapy, and other alternative or complementary approaches to pain relief will support a range of individualized birthing plans.” A Patient-Centered, Family-Friendly Experience Laurie Trongone, MPA, RNC, and assistant vice president, Women’s & Children’s service line, agreed that the entire hospital as well as the maternity units at Mullica Hill will feature the most innovative equipment and services. “The maternity unit will have all the amenities and technology that make it possible for individuals and families to have a safe and personal birth experience, from the most modern labor beds, fetal monitoring capabilities, delivery room infant resuscitation equipment and security systems to state-of-the-art operating rooms,” Trongone said. “The Mother-Baby unit will be designed to enable mothers and babies to stay to together at all times (unless there’s a medical necessity to be separated) and a special care nursery will be available should the baby need more specialized neonatal care,” she said. Overall, said Vivian Vega, MD, an obstetrician-gynecologist affiliated with Inspira, “The new Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill will deliver a patient-centered, family-friendly experience and represent a place where patients can design their own birthing experience in a cutting-edge facility with highly qualified physicians and staff who will help provide a safe and caring environment.” “We’re excited for both new moms as well as those who have delivered their other children in a different location to seek care and be ‘wowed’ by our state-of-the-art new facility at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill,” Taylor said. “Our hope is to be able to provide families in our community with the best birth story ever.” Call 800-INSPIRA for more information or to make an appointment with an Inspira physician.
