Mullica Hill Site to Offer Suite of Specialized Services

New Emergency Department capabilities at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill will feature special treatment areas for pediatrics and seniors. The satellite ED at Woodbury will provide basic emergency care 24 hours per day, seven days per week, along with lab and imaging services.

The Emergency Department (ED) team members at Inspira Health, a network of three hospitals and more than 150 access points throughout southern New Jersey, are no strangers to the vast array of conditions they’re called on to treat 24/7.

“When patients come to the ED, it’s one of the most important and stressful times in their life and they’re dependent on timely and capable health care,” said James Bonner, DO, FACOEP, and medical director of Inspira’s Department of Emergency Medicine. He noted that he and his team see everything from sprained ankles, sore throats, stomachaches and flu to more acute conditions such as appendicitis, diverticulitis, heart attacks, stroke and the fallout of falls, blunt trauma and motor vehicle accidents. “We’ve treated patients from their first day of life to over 100 years old.”

Based on the range of patients and conditions they’ve encountered every day, Bonner and his colleagues are excited to welcome the upcoming launch of the cutting-edge Emergency Department at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill, a new 210-bed, state-of-the-art facility scheduled to open in November. “We’ll have a full-service Emergency
Department able to handle upward of 70,000 patients a year,” said Bonner of the new facility, which promises to serve the community by delivering a more comfortable and customized patient experience than ever.

Among the services that will be available at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill’s new 62-bed Emergency Department are the following:

  • Specialized Senior Space — According to Tracey Leer, RN, MSN, FNP-BC, and director of Nursing for Inspira’s Emergency Department, “we’ll have an area with 14 private rooms, all with private bathrooms, to serve those 65 and older. We’re sensitive to the needs of the senior population and the area will be equipped with such features as anti-glare, non-skid floor surfaces, handrails, sound-resistant rooms, larger fonts on signage, and the availability of reading glasses,” she said. “We’ll also have a dedicated nursing staff in this area who are specialized in the field of geriatric nursing.”
  • Dedicated Pediatric Support — “The pediatric emergency department at Mullica Hill will be attached to the pediatric intake area to separate children from the adult population,” Bonner said of the unique new hybrid design, which will also feature dedicated professionals specialized in pediatric care.
  • Seamless Cardiac Catheterization Process — “On average, patients suffering from a heart attack will be in our cardiac cath lab and have their heart attack artery opened and a catheter inserted within 58 minutes of their arrival to the Emergency Department,” Bonner said, noting that Mullica Hill will be the only facility in Gloucester County to offer this capability.
  • Smart Room Technology — In addition to its modern décor and soothing color scheme featuring blues and earth tones, “the new Emergency Department will feature state-of-the-art equipment and ‘smart room’ technology, a real-time information and communication system that will enhance our ability to deliver efficient and customized care to patients,” Leer said.
  • Partnership with Nemours — Thanks to a partnership with Delaware-based Nemours Children’s Health System and Inspira Health, “pediatric patients will have 24/7 access  to Nemours pediatricians in real-time,” Bonner said.

Overall, both Bonner and Leer are excited about the promise the new Mullica Hill facility holds for the delivery of outstanding emergency care in southern New Jersey. According to Bonner, “this new facility will enhance our ability to deliver those important infrastructural services and to continue to provide critical support the community.”
