Gentle Beginnings is a group of certified nurse midwives at Inspira Medical Center Elmer looking to support women through the cycle of motherhood with care for the mind, body and soul. We treat every woman much like we would a friend, with the same standards of care we’d choose for ourselves. We can’t wait to meet you. But first, here’s a little about us: Lindsay Dauphinee, C.N.M., M.S.N. Lindsay has been a Gentle Beginnings midwife since 2012 and brings an extensive knowledge of women’s health issues to the team. She also has first-hand experience with Gentle Beginnings births—her son was born at Inspira Medical Center Elmer. Her research has appeared in numerous academic journals. Lindsay completed her Bachelor of Science in Human Biology with a focus on Women’s Health from Brown University. In addition, she has a Master of Science in Nursing and a certificate in Midwifery from the University of Pennsylvania. She has worked with women internationally, developing a “humanization of birth” project and setting up a midwifery school in Mexico. She has also been to Honduras to advocate for women’s health issues. Prior to bringing her expertise to Gentle Beginnings, Lindsey worked at a birth center in Delaware that offered both natural childbirth and water birth. Bernadette Lloyd-Sobolow, C.N.M., M.S.N. Bernadette joined the Gentle Beginnings team in 2014, bringing with her more than 31 years’ experience as a certified nurse midwife. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rhode Island College and a Master of Science in Nurse Midwifery from the University of Pennsylvania. She returned to UPenn in 2002 to complete coursework to earn a Post-Graduate Teaching Certificate. Bernadette holds a position there as a clinical faculty member. She enjoys teaching others about midwifery and has been a guest lecturer for the Institute of Midwifery, Women & Health. Before Gentle Beginnings, Bernadette spent 16 years practicing with Midwives of Delaware County in the Crozer-Keystone Health System. Waverly Lutz, C.N.M., M.S.N. Gentle Beginnings welcomed Waverly to its midwifery practice in 2015. Born and raised in Lancaster, PA, she moved to Elmer in 2013 after having lived in Philadelphia for several years. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology from Swarthmore College in 2007 where her thesis explored the importance of women sharing their birth narratives. After participating in her first homebirth, she felt the call to midwifery. She then continued her education to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and then a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Nursing. Before joining the team at Gentle Beginnings, Waverly spent time as a certified nurse midwife and clinical faculty member with Rowan University’s OB/GYN group. When she was pregnant with her son, Waverly chose the care at Gentle Beginnings for her own childbirth journey. When Waverly is not catching babies or doing paps, she is caring for her son and working with her husband on their small farm right outside of Elmer. Ashley Zigarelli, C.N.M., M.S.N. Ashley joined the Gentle Beginnings family in 2016 with more than 10 years of nursing experience. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Villanova University and a Master of Science in Nurse-Midwifery and Women’s Health from the University of Pennsylvania. Ashley spent six years as a labor and delivery nurse in New York City at Weill Cornell Medical Center where she was honored as Baby Nurse of the Year in 2013. She credits that work experience with inspiring her to pursue midwifery as a career. While at UPenn, Ashley had the opportunity to travel to Guatemala to work with local women and midwives to improve resources and knowledge surrounding women’s health and obstetrics. Now at Gentle Beginnings, Ashley provides women with gynecologic and pregnancy care to support them at all life stages. Alexandra Wagner C.N.M., M.S.N. Alexandra joined our talented roster in April 2018 as a registered nurse. She will be fully credentialed as a midwife and able to see Gentle Beginnings patients beginning in October. She completed a Master of Science in Nursing and a Women’s Health and Gender Related Nurse Practitioner and Nurse-Midwifery program from the University of Pennsylvania in 2017. At UPenn, she volunteered with the Women’s Health Nurse-Practitioner Cohort to raise awareness and provide health screenings to women in rural Appalachia and lectured on the topic of nursing care of women and infants. We can’t wait for Alexandra to be working with Gentle Beginnings patients in a greater capacity as a fully- credentialed midwife. Enough about us—we want to hear your story.
