Receives Prestigious “Golden Apple Award” VINELAND, NJ (July 5) – Vineland urogynecologist Dr. Gary Mirone was recently awarded with the 2011 Golden Apple Award for volunteer faculty by the graduating class of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey’s School of Osteopathic Medicine. The award is presented annually by each graduating class to a member of the volunteer faculty and full-time faculty at the University’s convocation. The Golden Apple Award, a decades-long tradition at the UMNDJ School of Osteopathic Medicine, is given to the faculty member who had the greatest impact on the students’ medical education. Each year, the graduating class nominates full-time and volunteer faculty members for the award and selects a winner through an online ballot. Gary Mirone, D.O. is the community’s only board-certified urogynecologist. He completed his fellowship training at UMDNJ in urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery. At his practice in Vineland, Dr. Mirone provides personalized care to help women manage urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, pelvic organ prolapse, recurrent urinary tract infections or other related disorders of the female urogential tract. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor for UMDNJ’s School of Osteopathic Medicine, as well as Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, and Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Mirone received the honor at UMDNJ’s convocation ceremony in May, which featured United States Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin as the keynote speaker. With 104 students, the Class of 2011 was the largest class in the history of the school.
