Department of EMS, Mobile Intensive Care Unit - MICU Working in close association with ambulance and rescue squads throughout Gloucester, Salem and Cumberland counties is the Inspira Medical Center Woodbury’s Department of EMS, Mobile Intensive Care Unit – MICU. Our highly skilled paramedic teams are called upon by county 9-1-1 dispatchers based upon an established criteria when a serious or life threatening emergency is reported. Because of their advanced education and training in emergency care, our MICU paramedics are able to help assess and stabilize the patient’s condition while administering advanced pre-hospital care on scene or en route to the hospital. Our specially equipped vehicles and extensively trained emergency medical teams are located throughout the tri-county region in strategic locations to afford improved accessibility and minimum response times. The recent addition of emergent PCI has afforded the MICU the ability to greatly reduce door-to-balloon times for all STEMI patients arriving by the paramedic units. Linked by electronic means to physicians in the hospital emergency department, the MICU provides highly qualified and compassionate advanced life support to accident and trauma victims and seriously ill patients. Over the past 5 years, our paramedic units were dispatched over 27,000 times, with over 10,000 patients assisted and treated annually, by the Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU). Education and training is an important aspect of the MICU. The EMS Academy offers many healthcare classes including ACLS, PALS, PEPP, EMT-Basic classes, PHTLS and many others on an annual basis.
