Urology Robotic Surgery at Inspira Medical Centers Vineland & Woodbury

The da Vinci® Surgical System provides patients with a minimally invasive alternative to traditional open or conventional Urological procedures.

The da Vinci® System is powered by robotic technology that allows the surgeon’s hand movements to be translated into smaller, precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body. One of the instruments is a laparoscope – a thin tube with a tiny camera and light at the end. The camera sends images to a video monitor in the operating room to guide doctors during surgery. The surgeon is 100% in control of the da Vinci® System at all times.

The specialized endoscope provides surgeons with a magnified 3D high-definition view inside the patient’s body.  The enhanced visualization of the surgical field and precise movements of tiny Wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human hand, enable surgeons to perform surgery using minimally invasive techniques, allowing for faster recovery from surgery with clinically improved patient outcomes.

The da Vinci® Surgical System is commonly utilized for the following Urology conditions:

1. Robotic Radical Prostatectomy (prostate cancer) - Surgical removal of the entire prostate for the treatment of prostate cancer.

Robotic Radical Prostatectomy offers several benefits over traditional open procedures:
  • Similar positive surgical margin rates
  • Faster return of erectile (sexual) function
  • Better chance for return of urinary continence within 6 months
  • Less blood loss or need for transfusion
  • Lower risk of complications
  • Lower risk of wound infection
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Less chance of hospital readmission
  • Fewer days with catheter
  • Less risk of deep vein thrombosis

2. Robotic Partial/Radical Nephrectomy (kidney disease/cancer) -
Surgical treatment of kidney disease and/or kidney cancer where the abnormal portion of the kidneys is removed or for conditions where the whole kidney is removed.

Robotic Partial Nephrectomy offers several benefits over traditional open procedures:

  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Less pain
  • Less blood loss
  • Fewer complications
  • Smaller incisions for less scarring

3. Robotic Radical Cystectomy (removal of bladder for bladder cancer) - Surgical removal of the entire bladder for invasive bladder cancer with creation of urinary diversion to drain kidneys.

Robotic Assisted Radical Cystectomy offers several benefits over traditional open procedures:
  • Lower risk of major and overall complications
  • Less blood loss lower rate of blood transfusions
  • Less need for narcotic pain medicine after surgery
  • Quicker return to a normal diet
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Quicker recovery of bowel function
  • Minimal scarring
  • Better lymph node removal yield

4.  Robotic Pyeloplasty - Surgical reconstruction of blocked ureters.

Robotic Pyeloplasty offers several benefits over traditional open procedures:

  • Shorter length of stay
  • Less narcotic utilization
  • Minimal scarring
Robotic Pyeloplasty offers additional benefits compared to traditional laparoscopy:
  • Shorter hospital stay
