Monday, July 20, 2020 - Inspira IMPACT Parent Linking Program Students Awarded Scholarships from Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey
Recognized for their outstanding academic and personal successes, the students plan to pursue higher education in health care
Inspira Health announced that two of the participants in its IMPACT Parent Linking Program (PLP), which serves students enrolled in Vineland High School who are pregnant or parenting, were awarded scholarships from Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey (PCA-NJ) for their outstanding academic and personal successes. Amy Victoria was awarded the Diane Dellanno Scholarship for $1000 and the Higher Education Book Scholarship for $500. Aaliyah Alston was awarded the Higher Education Book Scholarship for $500. Both students plan to pursue higher education in the health care field.
Traditionally, the annual scholarships are awarded at the Parent Linking Program’s Annual Teen Conference. However, due to safety concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the scholarships were presented by Debrah Hickman, IMPACT Program Coordinator at Inspira Health, during a surprise socially-distanced visit to the students’ homes.
“We are incredibly proud to award these scholarships to Amy and Aaliyah, who have demonstrated tremendous strength and perseverance both personally and academically,” said Debrah Hickman, IMPACT Program Coordinator at Inspira Health. “We congratulate both students and wish them success in their future career endeavors in the health care field.”
Established by the PCA-NJ, the annual Parent Linking Program Diane Dellanno Scholarship Award recognizes one student who has achieved positive academic and personal success while participating in the Parent Linking Program and has been accepted into a higher education program in the helping field. PCA-NJ’s annual Higher Education Book Scholarship honors students who have achieved positive academic success and exhibit a commitment to attending group sessions with the Parent Linking Program.
Since 1998, Inspira's IMPACT Program, in partnership with the Vineland Board of Education, has been serving Vineland High School students who are pregnant or parenting. Parent Linking Program provides the support necessary for teen parents to stay in school and graduate – giving the human factor of support in a nurturing and safe environment. This innovative program provides child care as well as daily classes on parenting, child development, life skills, safe dates and health-related issues. Funded by the New Jersey Department of Children and Families, the program aims to eliminate repeat pregnancies, to increase high school graduation rates and to reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect.
