Epilepsy Treatment

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that causes unprovoked seizures or unusual behavior (staring blankly, unresponsiveness, performing repetitive movements). If you have had one seizure, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have epilepsy. At least two unprovoked seizures are required for a diagnosis.

Epilepsy has been traced to genetic influence, head trauma, brain tumors or strokes, infectious diseases, prenatal injury and developmental disorders, such as autism. In about half of epilepsy cases, there is no identifiable cause.

There is no cure for epilepsy, but a neurologist can work with you to develop a treatment plan to help manage the disorder with medications or surgery.
