Millville Rescue Squad (MRS) and South Jersey Healthcare (SJH) announced today that their boards of directors have given their approval to explore an expanded relationship between the two organizations.
“As the landscape of healthcare, pre-hospital emergency medical services and medical transportation rapidly changes, our organizations see many positive opportunities to strengthen our long-standing partnership,” said John Redden, MRS chief executive officer. “Ultimately we both want to continue to provide our community with excellent care. By sharing resources, we may be able to more effectively navigate the ongoing changes in clinical practices and state regulatory requirements, as well as negotiate more effectively with payers and government agencies.”
MRS and SJH have a strong business relationship that dates back to the signing of a transportation agreement in 1998. Since then, the organizations have worked cooperatively to develop numerous programs and procedures to assure safe and timely transportation of their mutual patients.
“Both SJH and MRS have experienced significant growth and expansion during the past 14 years,” said Wayne Schiffner, SJH executive vice president and chief strategy officer. “We share the goal of providing the highest quality of care as demonstrated by our status as a Magnet Hospital and MRS’s national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services. With this mutual focus on clinical excellence and efficiencies, we feel that an expanded partnership could not only benefit our organizations, but also the entire region.”
Next steps will include the development and signing of a letter of intent that formalizes the exploration process. This will be followed by a due diligence period, during which both organizations can examine options for a legal relationship that most effectively helps them achieve their common goals.
