CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NJ (August 21, 2014) – The South Jersey Traffic Safety Alliance in partnership with Inspira’s RAFT (Resources Aligned for Teens) program at Vineland High School, recently concluded a traffic safety awareness program, “K-12 Traffic Safety District,” for students ages 12 through 18. Inspira’s RAFT program was the first in southern New Jersey to offer the five-week course to local students.
The course, which is based on Kean University’s K-12 traffic safety curriculum, provides age appropriate traffic safety education designed specifically to be used in New Jersey’s elementary and high school classrooms.
Instructors covered a range of topics, including pedestrian safety, bicycle safety, occupant protection (seat-belts/air bags), teen driving and the graduated drivers licensing restrictions. Student participants also gained practical experience with traffic safety signals and devices, as well as interactive static demonstrations on reaction time and total breaking distances for vehicles.
The SJTSA and a representative from Kean University awarded the RAFT program a new portable computer for student use.
