More Than 100 Attend Annual SJH Cancer Symposium Thursday Sept., 18Latest advancements in breast cancer treatment presented by region’s physicians
VINELAND, NJ (September 18)—Cutting edge research and the latest advancements in breast cancer were the topic of discussion at South Jersey Healthcare’s annual Cancer Symposium on Thursday, September 18. More than 100 physicians and health care professionals from our community and from across the region met to discuss the treatment of the disease at the event from 5 to 9 p.m. in the George Luciano Family Center at Cumberland County College.
The event was sponsored by the SJH Medical Staff and offered physicians an in-depth discussion on cutting-edge breast cancer treatment and its application to patient care. The program focused on several areas of breast cancer treatment including updates in breast cancer surgery, advances in chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and radiation therapy and fertility preservation options for patients who have been diagnosed with cancer.
Physicians also received updates on clinical trails and surgical outcomes at South Jersey Healthcare. The SJH Cancer Services team of board-certified physicians, registered radiation therapists and nationally certified oncology nurses has provided state-of-the-art radiation therapy, medical oncology and cancer support services to thousands of patients in the region for more than 25 years.
The SJH Frank and Edith Scarpa Regional Cancer Pavilion at the SJH Regional Medical Center brings the most advanced cancer treatment found in big city centers to our region. As a Fox Chase Cancer Center partner, SJH also provides leading-edge cancer care through national clinical trials, which study new cancer treatment, diagnostic and prevention methods. SJH’s fully accredited cancer program blends technology, convenience and compassionate care to provide peace of mind through the cancer journey.
In 2007, SJH Cancer Services received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer. The award recognizes cancer programs that strive for excellence in quality care to cancer patients. Just six percent of hospitals the ACoS surveyed last year earned an Outstanding Achievement Award. SJH was one of only two cancer programs in New Jersey and one of only 31 in the United States to receive the award in 2007.
