VINELAND (April 30) - South Jersey Healthcare has again received a Recognition Award from the New Jersey State Industrial Safety Committee and will be recognized at the Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health Awards Program this spring. The health system was first given the honor in 2004 and has since received the award for five straight years.
The Recognition Award is given to companies that achieve a low lost time incidence rate, provide a safe work environment and minimize injuries on the job. Facilities or companies must achieve a lost time incidence rate of 3.0 or less for the calendar year to be eligible for the award. SJH was well below that benchmark, achieving a lost workday rate of 1.11 in 2008.
“Receiving this award for five consecutive years shows that South Jersey Healthcare is a leader in employee safety,” said Chris Simkins, SJH Director of Occupational Health. “This award is an honor as it demonstrates the health system’s dedication to creating a culture of safety throughout the organization.”
Since its inception in 1927, the Governor’s Annual Occupational Safety and Health Awards Program has recognized thousands of organizations and has played an important role in promoting a safer and healthier workplace. The program is sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development and the State Safety Council.
