Tuesday, July 20, 2010 - South Jersey Healthcare tops in employee engagement

Vineland, NJ (July 19) – South Jersey Healthcare has been awarded a Best-in-Class Award for employee engagement. Presented by HR Solutions, SJH’s employee opinion survey vendor, the award signifies that the health system scored within the top 10 percent of the HR Solutions normative database. The employee engagement score is based on the responses to several questions on the Employee Opinion Survey.

Studies show that an engaged workforce results in better performance across an organization.  Although a standard definition of engagement is still being worked out, there are a number of factors that seem to foster it.  These include:

  • effective two-way communication between managers and staff
  • employee awareness of how their job supports the company’s initiatives and vision
  • job provides mental stimulation
  • opportunities for career growth/employee development
  • relationship with managers and team members
  • a sense of pride from being part of the company

“This is more great news that comes from our 2009 Employee Opinion Survey,” said Erich Florentine, chief people officer.  “This award speaks to our culture and the great team we have at SJH.  It takes a strong commitment from everyone – the essence of an engaged workforce – to do what is best for our patients, our communities and our co-workers.  By committing to the same vision and goals, we have been able to make great strides as an organization.”

SJH is a nonprofit, integrated health care system, providing access to a continuum of health services. SJH provides hospital services, numerous community health clinics, home health services, and specialty services, which serve the medical and health care needs of Southern New Jersey residents.
