Thursday, August 26, 2010 - Robotic Surgery at the SJH Regional Medical Center

Today, advanced surgical robots are improving surgery. During a robotic surgery, a surgeon has full control over the surgical robot, which has a high-definition camera attached to it, providing a view of the surgical site. The surgeon operates from a console while the robotic surgical arms mimic the physician’s movements. These precision-engineered arms provide better movement within tight spaces, giving the physician more control in surgery.

Now, SJH’s Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery has also introduced the da Vinci® Surgical System, a minimally invasive robotic surgery tool at our Regional Medical Center in Vineland. Initially used for urologic procedures, its use has expanded to include additional specialties, such as gynecologic surgery.
