Thursday, November 4, 2010 - SJH CFO named NJ BIZ CFO of the Year

VINELAND, NJ (November 1, 2010) – John DiAngelo, senior vice president of Finance and CFO, South Jersey Healthcare, was honored as the CFO of the Year by NJ BIZ, New Jersey's only weekly business journal covering the entire state. DiAngelo was selected from more than 25 CFOs who were nominated in the “Large Non-Profit” category.

DiAngelo joined SJH in 2000, having previously served as vice president for planning and network development at Virtua Health and CFO of Memorial Hospital of Burlington County. He also worked at Saint Mary Hospital in Langhorne, PA, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

“John is one of the most strategic chief financial officers I have had the pleasure to work with,” said Chet Kaletkowski, president and CEO of SJH. “In my mind, the biggest accomplishment for John was obtaining tax-exempt financing for the South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center. We not only obtained the financing, but we have been able to successfully improve our operating performance every year that he has been associated with our organization.”

Under DiAngelo’s leadership in 2009, SJH was the only health system in the state to have its bond rating upgraded. DiAngelo has also actively participated in the development of joint venture models with members of the SJH Medical staff for free-standing dialysis and imaging centers.

Perhaps DiAngelo’s proudest accomplishment has been his ability to mentor younger finance professionals. Five people who have worked for him over the years have gone on to become CFOs of other organizations.

“I have always hired people who are smarter than me and worked to train them to grow and progress,” said DiAngelo. “We work to agreed-upon goals, and we mentor them to be comfortable completing our objectives.”

In the community, DiAngelo has been involved with Leadership Cumberland County and the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Saint John Vianney Center as treasurer and chair of the finance committee.

In summing up his experience at SJH, DiAngelo explained, “We have always been a metrics-driven organization for quality and finance. This helps us manage our expenses and productivity
to the highest levels.

DiAngelo graduated from St. Joseph’s University with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and earned his master’s degree in Business Administration from Widener University. He currently resides in Mullica Hill, Gloucester County.
