The smoking cessation group offers support for pre-quitters, quitters, and successful quitters to prevent relapse. The sessions include group discussion about quitting tips and techniques, smoking cessation video presentations and individual or mini-group counseling on medications such as Zyban and nicotine patches and gum.
Counseling is provided by a Registered Nurse who is a Tobacco Treatment Specialist, trained by the UMDNJ School of Public Health Comprehensive Tobacco Control Program, and certified by the Addiction Professionals Certification Board.
For a one-time membership fee of $50, participants will be entitled to unlimited attendance. Cessation information will be provided in both English and Spanish and attendees may bring an interpreter at no additional cost. The program is free for SJH Fitness Connection members or for individuals who have signed up for individual smoking cessation service.
The SJH Fitness Connection also offers individual smoking cessation counseling, which includes a personal assessment and recommendations for cessation medications. The program consists of three sessions; the first is a one and a half hour meeting, followed by two shorter sessions. Various days and session times are available. The cost for three individual smoking cessation sessions is $50. Friends and family may purchase gift certificates for the program at the Fitness Connection.
Worksite group discussions for employers are also available. One-hour sessions, followed by a question and answer period, are offered for $150. Churches and organizations may arrange for a smoking cessation speaker for a discounted fee.
Individuals, groups, and employers can call the Fitness Connection for more information or to register for smoking cessation programs by calling (856) 696-3924.
