Thursday, February 13, 2020 - Century Savings Bank “Preemie Promise” Donations to Deborah F. Sager Memorial Fund Exceed $30,000
At a check presentation Tuesday inside
Inspira Medical Center Vineland
, the Deborah F. Sager Memorial Fund (DFSMF) and Century Savings Bank celebrated the continuation of their “Preemie Promise” campaign to fund the critical care needs of premature infants in South Jersey. Century pledged $5,000 to the Memorial Fund at Tuesday’s event, bringing their total commitment to more than $30,000 since 2012.
Century Savings Bank donated $5,000 to the Deborah F. Sager Memorial Fund in support of the expert care provided by the doctors and nurses of the Deborah F. Sager Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Inspira Vineland. From left, Dawn Goffredo, administrative director of Maternal Child Health; Laurie Trongone, assistant vice president of Women’s and Children’s Services; Jessica Kowal, chief development officer; Ashish Gupta, M.D., neonatologist; David J. Hemple, president and CEO, Century Savings Bank; and Penny Sager-Rossi, founder of the Deborah F. Sager Memorial Fund, were joined by members of the Maternal Child Health team for the check presentation.
“We are so proud of the support from Century Savings Bank to the Deborah F. Sager Memorial Fund,” said Penny Sager-Rossi, founder of the DFSMF. “Their fundamental desire to enhance the delivery of health care for children in our region is inspiring. With their continued commitment, we are able to make miracles happen and help fragile souls grow and thrive.”
“Century Savings Bank is proud to support the Deborah F. Sager Memorial Fund and the life-savings care provided to so many families throughout South Jersey,” said David J. Hemple, president and CEO of Century Savings Bank. “Together we are making our communities stronger.”
Since 2012, the Deborah F. Sager Memorial Fund has donated more than $400,000 to help support medical care for premature infants cared for in the Deborah F. Sager Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Inspira Medical Center Vineland. In 2016, the DFSMF and Century Savings Bank started the “Preemie Promise” partnership, which matches donations to the fund up to $5,000 in the last quarter of each year.
Premature babies have more health problems and require longer hospital stays than full-term babies. They may also have long-term health concerns. These babies can spend from days to three months, or longer, in the NICU.
Located in Inspira Medical Center Vineland, the
Deborah F. Sager NICU
cares for pre-term babies – of all gestational ages – and other critically ill newborns. Through a partnership with Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children and Inspira Health, Nemours neonatologists and highly skilled Inspira nurses provide around-the-clock care for premature and critically ill newborns who require intensive, and often complex care. Since opening in 2012, the physicians and nurses of the NICU have cared for more than 2,650 babies from across Southern New Jersey! In addition to the Deborah F. Sager NICU at Inspira Medical Center Vineland, Inspira Health’s state-of-the-art medical center in Mullica Hill provides expert care for pre-term babies in its Intermediate Care Nursery.
The warm, friendly and personal support that preemies and their families receive at the Deborah F. Sager Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a source of hope and strength for those in need. Years after leaving the NICU, thankful parents still consider the medical team as part of their support network, returning to visit and keeping doctors updated on their children’s health and well-being.
The Deborah F. Sager Memorial Fund (DFSMF) is a restricted fund of Inspira Health Foundation where earnings are used only to enhance the medical care of children at Inspira. Since its beginning in 1979, the DFSMF has made a number of vital contributions to support the enhanced delivery of health care to children in our region. In 2012, the DFSMF contributed $250,000 to the Deborah F. Sager Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Inspira Medical Center Vineland. For more information or to donate, visit
