VINELAND, NJ (November 28) – South Jersey Healthcare is now treating cancer patients with even more advanced technology for image-guided radiotherapy and radiosurgery. The powerful Varian Trilogy Linear Accelerator now makes it possible for SJH physicians to deliver a wide range of ultra-precise treatments with great speed to patients in the region who suffer from cancer.

“This state-of-the-art system is proven technology that makes it possible for us to treat our patients with advanced radiotherapy techniques,” said SJH’s Medical Director of Radiation Oncology, Dr. Joseph Fanelle, MD. “It provides us with tremendous versatility and precision for customizing treatments and choosing an appropriate delivery approach based on the specifics of each patient’s case.”

At the core of the Trilogy system is Varian’s high-powered linear accelerator, a machine that rotates around the patient to deliver radiotherapy treatments from many angles. The system is able to deliver high doses of radiation to a tumor, while minimizing the dose received by the surrounding normal tissues. This translates into faster treatments, greater patient comfort, and the opportunity for better outcomes.

“The extraordinary power and flexibility of the Trilogy system enables us to design a treatment plan that gives our patients an appropriate radiotherapy treatment based on that patient’s particular case,” said Dr. Fanelle. “By combining high dose delivery rates with high-quality imaging, tracking and monitoring, we can deliver accurate treatments quickly and efficiently.”

SJH has provided area patients with state-of-the-art radiation therapy for more than 30 years. The addition of the Varian Trilogy Linear Accelerator gives patients in southern New Jersey convenient access to the latest technology for receiving quality cancer treatment close to their home and loved ones. The treatment this equipment offers has greatly enhanced the comprehensive services available at the SJH Frank and Edith Scarpa Regional Cancer Pavilion.

SJH is a nonprofit, integrated health care system, providing access to a continuum of health services. SJH provides hospital services, numerous community health clinics, home health services, and specialty services, which serve the medical and health care needs of southern New Jersey residents.
