VINELAND, NJ (February 11) – South Jersey Healthcare has achieved national accreditation from DNV Healthcare, a hospital accreditation program approved by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that integrates the ISO 9001 Quality Management System. The DNV program requires hospitals to evaluate the continuum of patient care throughout its facilities and take measured steps to improve when it is warranted.
“We chose DNV as our accreditation provider because it allows our system to meet standards in ways that work best for specific facilities, which include SJH’s Regional Medical Center, Elmer Hospital, Bridgeton Health Center and various outpatient sites,” said John DiAngelo, executive vice president and chief financial officer for South Jersey Healthcare and Underwood-Memorial Hospital. “The DNV accreditation program also facilitates the process for obtaining ISO 9001 compliance.”
As part of the accreditation process, DNV surveyors visit SJH’s facilities annually instead of every three years as is common in the industry. They monitor the adherence to patient safety criteria established by CMS, but also evaluate processes that impact patient care across various departments and facilities of the health system.
In addition to yearly accreditation, DNV requires that hospitals become ISO 9001 compliant within three years of completing the first survey in order to maintain its accreditation. ISO 9001 has three main goals, including: consistent service that meets the needs of the customer and meets statutory and regulatory requirements; customer satisfaction; and continual improvement. SJH is currently in the process of obtaining ISO 9001 for its recently re-accredited DNV facilities.
“Receiving ISO 9001 compliance will indicate that our organization has met quality objectives based on international standards,” said Emily Turnure, administrative director of Education and Accreditation for SJH. “We believe that this further demonstrates our commitment to pursuing the highest possible clinical and service standards of excellence.”
SJH is a nonprofit, integrated health care system, providing access to a continuum of health services. SJH provides hospital services, numerous community health clinics, home health services, and specialty services, which serve the medical and health care needs of southern New Jersey residents.
