Friday, November 11, 2011 - South Jersey Healthcare Cancer Program recognized for 30-year membership in ACCC

Vineland, NJ (November 11) – South Jersey Healthcare Cancer Services has been honored for having more than three decades of membership in of the Association of Community Cancer Centers. The SJH cancer program was honored during the opening session of the ACCC’s National Oncology Conference held October 19–22 in Seattle.

“It is through the dedicated support of members like you that ACCC has come to the forefront as the leading education and advocacy organization for the cancer team. Thanks for being our partner throughout the last three decades,” said Lori Gardner, senior director of Membership and Marketing at the ACCC in a letter to Melanie Pirollo, director of SJH Cancer Services.

“A cancer center must be closely tied to the communities it serves,” said Pirollo. “The founders of our cancer program recognized this and became early members of the Association of Community Cancer Centers.”

SJH Cancer Services traces its roots to the Department of Radiation Oncology, which opened at the old Millville Hospital in 1979.  In 2005, the SJH Frank and Edith Scarpa Regional Cancer Pavilion opened providing access to enhanced cancer services within our region.  Just five years later, the center expanded to bring all components of cancer care under one roof making it easier than ever for community members to receive state-of-the-art services close to home.

SJH Cancer services have been affiliated with Fox Chase Cancer Center since 1995, allowing SJH to offer local access to national clinical trials. Our SJH physicians, registered radiation therapists and nationally-certified oncology nurses have provided state-of-the-art radiation therapy, medical oncology and cancer support services to thousands of patients in the region for more than 30 years.

SJH is a nonprofit, integrated health care system, providing access to a continuum of health services. SJH provides hospital services, numerous community health clinics, home health services, and specialty services, which serve the medical and health care needs of Southern New Jersey residents.
