Developing and Implementing a Safety Management System
Improvements in safety in healthcare organizations is a critical focus of executives today.  Many organizations have not seen clear improvements in safety due in part to disconnected approaches, a lack of accountability and a lack of sustainment.  Enhancements in safety need to be proactive rather than reactive and managed in a systems format that is acknowledged vertically and horizontally across the enterprise.  The safety management system provides a map to implement and sustain safety work.  This program will illustrate how a community healthcare system implemented the key components of a safety management system; Commitment to Safety, Building a Culture of Safety, Reinforcing and Promoting a Culture of Safety, and Building a Learning Organization, across acute care hospitals, employed physician practices and urgent care, and other ambulatory settings.
