Breast Cancer Screenings
Breast cancer screenings detect cancer at the earliest possible stage when it is most treatable.
Breast Cancer Screenings

When breast cancer is detected early, it can be treated more effectively. Inspira offers several options for breast cancer screening.
According to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), women between the ages of 50 and 74 who are at average risk for breast cancer should get a mammogram every two years. Women between the ages of 40 and 49 should talk to their doctor about screening options, including when to start and how often to get a mammogram. Self-exams, which can be performed at virtually any age, can be an especially helpful tool when practiced in conjunction with routine clinical exams and mammograms.
Inspira’s Approach to Breast Cancer Screening
There are three primary ways to complete a breast screening:
- Breast self-exam
- Clinical exam by your doctor
- Imaging - including 3D mammogram along with MRI and ultrasound technology
Your care team may recommend a breast biopsy if a suspicious lump or apparent growth is detected in your breast(s), If recommended, Biopsies are offered quickly to reduce your stress and getting a recommendation for a biopsy don’t necessarily mean you have cancer.
If you are at high risk for hereditary breast cancer you may want to consider more frequent screenings and genetic testing. Inspira’s High Risk Cancer Program and Inspira Insight risk assessment can help you understand your risk for hereditary cancer.

Early detection saves lives. It’s why we put so much emphasis on having the most innovative breast imaging and screening devices available for our breast cancer patients. Our local imaging centers provide access to digital and 3D mammograms, non-invasive ultrasound machines and breast MRI, among other technologies. When cancer is suspected, patients can move forward quickly through diagnostic imaging, and if needed, biopsy. Our goal is to reduce your stress whenever possible.
Inspira offers a multidisciplinary breast cancer team that meets regularly to discuss each patient’s treatment plan and progress. The team includes medical and radiation oncologists, breast surgeons, pathologists, radiologists and specialists in reconstructive plastic surgery, along with cancer coordinators, social workers, genetic counselors, registered dietitians and physical therapists.
Our coordinators connect with people when they have an abnormal mammogram, breast changes or lumps. They continue to work with everyone who is diagnosed with breast cancer to support their physical and emotional needs through treatment and survivorship. Coordinators are strong advocates ensuring care coordination and managing relationships with multiple specialists involved in a patient’s care. Inspira also offers ongoing distress screening/counseling and a physical rehabilitation program that can begin before treatment to improve outcomes.
