Inspira Health works directly with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to meet the requirements set forth by the MISSION Act.

With the passage of the MISSION Act designed to improve access to health care services for veterans nationwide, Inspira and the Wilmington VA Medical Center have joined forces to ensure all local active duty and retired military, veterans and their families receive high-quality community-based care as quickly and efficiently as possible. 

For Employees: Veterans Called for Active Duty 

For full-time and part-time employees, Inspira will supplement the difference between regular pay and what is received while on military leave for up to 12 months per assignment. Learn More.

For Patients: Applying for Coverage 

Service members currently enrolled in VA’s medical system who have received care within the last two years may be eligible for coverage. Before accessing care at any of Inspira’s locations, contact VA to complete the pre-certification process and receive the proper approvals. Improving Access to Care 

Inspira provides a range of comprehensive health care services to military personnel and their families across South Jersey. Through our partnership with Wilmington’s VA Medical Center, we seek to reduce wait times for veterans, increase their ability to receive care close to home, and improve the veteran patient experience from start to finish. 

In order to better serve the military community, new access standards are being implemented under the MISSION Act.  

  • Access standards are based on average drive time and appointment wait times. 

  • For primary care, mental health and non-institutional extended care services, VA is proposing a 30-minute average drive time standard. 

  • For specialty care, VA is proposing a 60-minute average drive time standard.

  • VA is proposing appointment wait-time standards of 20 days for primary care, mental health and non-institutional extended care services, and 28 days for specialty care from the date of request. 

Inspira is committed to training staff members and providing them with the resources necessary to ensure we deliver on these proposed standards.
