Laminectomy is a procedure that’s used to ease pressure on spinal nerves, treat a herniated disc or remove a tumor.
Our Approach to Laminectomy
By removing damaged bone, or lamina, your surgeon will be able to widen your spinal canal and relieve pressure on the spinal cord and surrounding nerves. Those with a herniated disc or arthritis often find this to be an effective way to alleviate pain caused by bony overgrowths, or bone spurs. Once bone is no longer pressing against fragile tissue, painful symptoms dissipate rather quickly.
If you experience pain, weakness or numbness that radiates down your back, arms or legs, and you’ve not seen success with more conservative treatments, you may be a candidate for laminectomy.
If your herniated disc or arthritis are not responding to nonsurgical treatment, our neurosurgeons may be able to help.
