Inspira Mullica Hill Opening 2019

New medical center in Mullica Hill on track for 2019 opening

Expected to open in late 2019, Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill, shown in rendering at left, will ensure that Gloucester County residents have access to the highest-quality medical services in a cutting-edge facility. The finishing of the structural steel process, below, was celebrated last month.

Despite enduring a few curveballs thrown by Mother Nature, construction of Inspira Health’s state-of-the-art medical center in Mullica Hill is on track to open as expected in late 2019.

Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill comprises approximately 465,000 square feet and rests on a 100-acre campus, which allows for additional growth and complementary services. Located just east of the intersection of Route 322 and Route 55, adjacent to the West Campus of Rowan University, Inspira broke ground on the $356 million facility in May 2017 to ensure residents of Gloucester County continue to have access to the highest quality medical services inside a cutting-edge facility.

“Although it was a tough winter, we are on schedule,” said Shannon Campbell, director of construction and design at Inspira Health. “We had to work some Saturdays and longer days, but we’re pushing through. We’re finishing the erection of the last steel beam.”

Inspira Health marked the occasion with a beam-raising celebration, denoting the finishing of the structural steel process, on May 29.

Elevating the Patient’s Experience
The amenities incorporated in the design illustrate Inspira’s long-standing commitment to patient-centered care. The new hospital will feature:
  • 210 all private patient rooms;
  • the latest in medical and communication technology;
  • home-like birthing suites;
  • a pediatric emergency department with adjacent inpatient unit;
  • a comprehensive cancer program;
  • emergency angioplasty for heart attack patients; and
  • Smart Room technology designed to enhance patient safety and the patient experience.
The maternity ward will include 16 labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum (LDRP) rooms. Individuals will give birth here and their babies will stay with them until they are ready to go home, with the exception of those who have C-sections. It’s an attractive alternative and not a lot of other hospitals are able to offer this option.

The facility also will feature what’s being referred to as an “interventional platform” that will include a cardio catheterization lab, an operating room, a GI (gastrointestinal) suite, 32 prep and recovery rooms, and an interventional radiology suite.

The facility was designed with significant input from more than 200 employees and physicians who are committed to creating a safe, comfortable and healing environment for patients and their loved ones.

The proximity to Rowan University is also a real bonus. A number of collaborative projects are in progress, with hope this will facilitate even more in the future.

Upon opening, approximately 1,400 employees will work at the new hospital.

What’s Next?
“We’re getting ready to start the exterior facade,” Campbell said. “Then we’re starting on the interior work on the first floor, which includes the emergency department and imaging space.”

As Inspira Mullica Hill opens, Inspira Medical Center Woodbury will be transformed from a hospital into a health center, offering ER services, behavioral health and outpatient care, including imaging, lab and more.
