Through an affiliation with the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institution, Inspira Health is proud to assist in training the physicians of the future.

Osteopathic Residency & Fellowship Programs

Inspira Health is a member of Rowan SOM OPTI of NJ, offering its resident doctors a variety of opportunities for diverse, qualified experiences to enhance skills. We are proud to offer osteopathic residency programs in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Family Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Internal Medicine, Traditional Rotating Internship, Emergency Medicine, and General Surgery.

Obstetrics and Gynecology
Inspira Health’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program is dedicated to training residents in all areas of OB/GYN. Educational experiences are available to students seeking a career as a generalist or any of the four subspecialties — Maternal Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology/Infertility, Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery, and Gynecologic Oncology.

Inspira Medical Center Vineland is equipped with a state-of-the-art Neonatal Intermediate Care Unit, a special-care nursery with sophisticated incubators that provide a temperature- and humidity-controlled environment and constant monitoring of babies with special needs, and the Deborah F. Sager Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a Level-IIa center offering advanced technology for babies who are born prematurely or have other medical problems and require highly specialized care.

Residents are mentored by staff physicians as well as each other at Inspira Medical Center Vineland or Inspira Medical Center Elmer. Both hospitals offer state-of-the-art operating facilities and medical equipment, including the daVinci robot at the Vineland location. Gynecologic oncology training is offered at Cooper University Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey, and residents rotate with Inspira Health staff OB/GYN subspecialists to
complete their training.

Family Medicine
The goal of Inspira Health’s Family Medicine Residency Program is to mold well-rounded physicians: ones who are competent in the care of the patient and who can function in today’s health care arena. Throughout the program, training is designed to prepare physicians for clinical practice in a variety of settings.

As residents assume increased responsibility for patient care, the three-year Inspira Health residency program will give them ample opportunity to develop the skills needed to become a successful family practitioner. The Family Practice Residency Program is fast becoming a nationally recognized model of excellence for medical education, osteopathic manipulation, research, and patient care.

Orthopedic Surgery
The five-year Inspira Health Orthopedic Residency Program offers a curriculum that teaches core Orthopedic surgery training, but allows for tailoring to a residents’ customized needs and special interests.

Residents receive a dynamic, patient-centered care program of operative and clinical experiences that exposes them to multiple facets of orthopedics. Rotations provide both outpatient and operative treatment of patients with musculoskeletal issues, and also provide close contact with both academic and community orthopedic surgeons. Residents rotate among the Inspira, Kennedy, Cooper and duPont Hospital systems to enhance their learning experience.

Internal Medicine
Experience in the latest medical technologies provided by a highly qualified staff of doctors and technicians gives the three-year Inspira Health Internal Medicine Residency Program its solid training base. The academic program incorporates both inpatient and outpatient facilities to create a well-rounded curriculum. 

The program offers world-class Hematology/Oncology affiliated with the Fox Chase Cancer Center, experience in inpatient and outpatient hemodialysis, a cardiac cath lab associated with nationally recognized cardiology programs, as well as a full complement of didactic programs including morning report, journal clubs, lectures and grand rounds.

Traditional Rotating Internship
Inspira Health offers a Traditional Rotating Internship Program dedicated to molding well-rounded physicians who are competent in patient care with the experience to function well in today’s healthcare arena. This fully accredited one-year program prepares physicians for clinical practice in a variety of settings. The curriculum provides core internship rotations tailored to an individual’s unique needs and interests.

Students who are undecided about a specialty or those who require a transition year will find this one-year program to be more than adequate to satisfy that requirement. Along with the interns from the other programs, rotating/transitional interns will find this program challenging and rewarding as they begin their post-graduate training.

Emergency Medicine
As a community hospital-based program, the goal of our Emergency Medicine Residency is to provide broad clinical experiences that train emergency physicians to be competent and capable of working in a variety of clinical settings.

The Inspira Health Emergency Medicine Residency Program is a four-year AOA -accredited program, including a preliminary, emergency medicine-focused internship year. The program is currently approved for eight training positions per training year.

General Surgery
Inspira Health offers a fully accredited General Surgery Residency Program that is structured to include five years of clinical training with exposure to all elements of General Surgery. Residents assume increased responsibility for patient care and ample opportunity to develop the skills needed to become a successful general surgeon.

The curriculum teaches core general surgery training but allows for customizing to an individual resident’s needs and interests.

Inspira Health offers academic and clinical fellowships in Sports Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. These fully accredited programs provide superior, “hands on” training for physicians who wish to become highly skilled clinical medical specialists. Successful candidates will develop the ability to provide high-quality care in an environment where positive outcomes are increasingly becoming the “bottom line.”

Drawing from a wide range of patient care experiences, a broadbased curriculum incorporates the latest advances in preventive medicine and innovative technologies. Fellows are trained in patient management as well as in all invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic modalities.
