SJH Announces Syringe Disposal Program

VINELAND, NJ (July 24) – The safe disposal of used syringes and lancets is an ongoing public safety concern. To address the issue here in our community, South Jersey Healthcare has introduced the Community Sharps Disposal Program for individuals using injectable medications and other medical sharps at home.

Community residents may drop off medical sharps at the SJH Bridgeton Health Center, SJH Elmer Hospital and the SJH Regional Medical Center by appointment. Containers must be shatter proof, leak proof, puncture proof, closed and sealed. Accepted packaging includes detergent bottles with screw on tops and sharps containers. Bleach bottles cannot be accepted.

Local residents should call to arrange a “drop off” appointment. The program is available only to private citizens and medical office waste or waste generated in connection with care provided by home health care professionals cannot be accepted. Further information regarding container requirements and directions to the nearest SJH facility will also be provided.

To make an appointment, call the SJH Environmental Services Department at the following locations: SJH Bridgeton Health Center - (856) 575-4525; SJH Elmer Hospital - (856) 363-1508; SJH Regional Medical Center, Vineland - (856) 641-7510.
