Wednesday, May 23, 2007 - South Jersey Healthcare Hospitals Receive National Awards for Clinical Excellence

Both SJH Elmer Hospital and SJH Regional Medical Center (RMC) have been recognized with the 2007 VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence in the treatment of heart attack patients and the implementation of rapid response teams. Elmer Hospital also received the award for the treatment of congestive heart failure and pneumonia.

SJH is one of only two health systems in New Jersey to receive the award for multiple hospitals. Elmer Hospital is the only hospital in New Jersey, and one of only 12 nationwide, to win the award in four clinical categories. The RMC is one of 65 VHA member hospitals nationwide to with the award in two or more clinical categories.

In the last three years, SJH’s hospitals have received 11 VHA Leadership Awards for Clinical Excellence. The awards are based on the latest set of measures that have been nationally accepted as indicators of quality. Hospitals must achieve at least a 90 percent or greater compliance rate with all of the indicators to qualify for the award.

“I am proud that once again both of our hospitals have been recognized for the outstanding care that they provide,” said Steve Linn, M.D., M.P.H., SJH chief medical officer. “We could not have achieved these awards without the hard work and commitment of our physicians and nursing staff.”
