John DiAngelo to Retire as President and CEO of Inspira Health

Jan 27, 2020

Inspira Health president and CEO, John A. DiAngelo, today announced his intention to retire from the organization at the end of 2020. Since joining Inspira Health in 2000, DiAngelo has led the organization with a passion for health care excellence and service, establishing Inspira as a leader in innovation and changing the way health care is delivered in the South Jersey region. He will remain in his position as president and CEO until a successor is named.

“It’s rare to find an outstanding health care leader like John DiAngelo. His unwavering commitment to improving the health of the South Jersey community has positioned Inspira as a regional health care leader,” said Michael A. McLaughlin, Chairman of Inspira Health’s Board of Trustees. “It’s been my great pleasure to work with John for many years, and on behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank John for his extraordinary dedication and contribution to Inspira for two decades. He has truly led the way toward a stronger health care future for South Jersey.”

Inspira Health Network’s Board of Trustees has selected Korn Ferry, a global consulting firm, to conduct a thorough, thoughtful national search for the next president and CEO of Inspira Health. The Board anticipates a new president and CEO will be in place by 2021.

“This decision comes at a momentous time for Inspira, and I am immensely proud of the invaluable contributions of this organization in our community,” said DiAngelo. “What began eight years ago, with the coming together of South Jersey Healthcare and Underwood Memorial, has grown into a regionally recognized health care leader today, dedicated to health care quality, value and innovation. I will forever be grateful to my colleagues and staff for their relentless dedication, support and hard work. It’s been an honor to be a part of this organization, and I look forward to Inspira Health’s continued growth and success.”

As president and CEO, DiAngelo focused on providing high quality health services to improve the lives of all served. A sample of his key accomplishments include:

Growth and Development

Under DiAngelo’s leadership, Inspira has undergone tremendous advancement and expansion. DiAngelo more than doubled access points from 60 to more than 150 today, including 10 new urgent care centers and, in 2018, he led the $34 million expansion of Inspira Medical Center Vineland.

Most recently, DiAngelo led the planning, approval, development and opening of the $356 million state-of-the-art medical center in Mullica Hill, as well as the adjacent leading-edge cancer center, both of which elevate patient care in the region. Additionally, his leadership and support played a critical role in Inspira’s fundraising success, exceeding the $23 million stretch goal for its capital campaign – benefiting Inspira Health and its patient-centric care.

Innovation in Health Care

During his tenure, DiAngelo has driven innovation at Inspira, propelling the network forward with the launch of Inspira’s Innovation Center which accelerates the development and implementation of leading-edge, patient-focused technologies. In addition, he established a $1 million Innovation Fund to assist in potential startup funding of approved programs, testing and scaling of current innovations and other projects. As a result, Inspira has funded key programs to elevate the patient experience, such as Health+ which allows patients with chronic conditions—and their care team—to actively monitor their health via telemedicine and wearables.

Innovation is also at the core of Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill, and under DiAngelo’s directive, the hospital offers the latest in medical and communication innovation, including SmartRoom technology, positioning itself as one of the smartest hospitals in the region.

Community Impact

DiAngelo is personally committed to taking care of the community in his community; Inspira has provided more than half a billion dollars in community benefit activities and programs over the past six years, exemplified by various initiatives – many of which support the area’s most fragile communities. From spearheading programs to combat the opioid epidemic, to helping end homelessness as a founding partner of the Cumberland County Housing First Collaborative (CCHFC), DiAngelo has made a lasting impact in the South Jersey region – on patients, their families and the communities in which they live.
