MULLICA HILL, NJ (July 18, 2014)  Inspira Health Network has been recognized with the 2014 Most Wired Health System Award for implementing new technologies aimed at connecting providers with patients and improving patient care.

“As the nation’s health care system transitions to more integrated and patient-centered care, it is vital for hospitals to implement technologies that better connect providers with patients,” said Tom Pacek, vice president and chief information officer for Inspira Health Network. “Inspira has done tremendous work to enhance our IT systems in ways that support care and delivery improvement, as well as patient engagement goals and I am extremely proud that our network has been recognized as a leader in IT.”

Over the past six years, the southern New Jersey-based health network has made a significant investment in information technology. Inspira reports several of the network’s accomplishments are direct outcomes of its IT initiatives and most—if not all of them—directly relate to improving quality of care and patient safety while reducing the overall costs of health care at Inspira.

A few of Inspira’s IT initiatives include:

  • A Health Information Exchange which allows providers, including hospitals, physician practices, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation centers and home health services, to access patient information from a secure electronic network in order to provide care faster
  • A process for gathering and analyzing data from all of the network’s information systems to develop customized programs of care that best meet the needs of patients
  • Use of bar coding technology to reduce the chance of medication errors
  • Development of a Patient Portal which provides patients with electronic access to their health records, including test results, treatment plans, medications and follow-up care instructions

“Inspira has achieved this recognition due to support from its boards, administrative and medical staff leadership; successful adoption and use of the technology by our clinical staff; and of course the dedicated and knowledgeable Information Systems staff we employ at Inspira,” said Pacek.

About Most Wired Health Systems
Hospitals & Health Networks sponsors the annual Most Wired Survey, which is an industry-standard benchmark study. The survey is designed to measure the level of IT adoption in U.S. hospitals and health systems, and is a useful tool for hospital and health system leadership to map their IT strategic plans. Health Forum, an American Hospital Association information company, distributes, collects and analyzes the Most Wired data and develops benchmarks that are becoming the industry standard for measuring IT adoption for operational, financial and clinical performance in health care delivery systems.
