Inspira Purchases Millville Rescue Squad - Plans call for maintaining and expanding services

Aug 16, 2017

MILLVILLE, NJ (August 16, 2017)—Inspira Health Network and Millville Rescue Squad announced today the purchase of the rescue squad by Inspira. The sale and purchase, unanimously approved by the boards of both organizations, follows a March announcement that the organizations were in talks about how the two organizations could further integrate their services. MRS has provided emergency medical services since 1958. And for the past 18 years, Millville Rescue Squad has provided tens of thousands of non-emergency medical transport trips for Inspira and its patients.

“Millville Rescue Squad is proud of our 60 years of service to the community. Throughout the years, we have continuously adapted to the many changes in the delivery of EMS service,” said John Redden, MRS chief executive officer. “As the landscape of healthcare, pre-hospital emergency medical services and medical transportation continue to rapidly change, our organizations see many positive opportunities by joining forces. I'm confident that the MRS team, our communities and the patients we serve will benefit.”

“Inspira is committed to making this transition seamless to all of the people and agencies that are accustomed to the excellent services MRS has provided for decades,” said John DiAngelo, president and chief executive officer of Inspira Health Network. “We will maintain existing services and explore opportunities for expansion to meet the growing and changing EMS and medical transport needs in our region. To all of our new employees from MRS, welcome to Inspira. We are excited that you have joined the team.”

Inspira has provided emergency medical services since 1977, the year Inspira Medical Center Woodbury became a regional provider of paramedic services. Last year, Inspira Emergency Medical Services and Transportation received more than 27,000 calls for service, and Inspira paramedics provided advanced emergency treatment on 11,745 occasions. MRS provided a total of more than 40,000 emergency and non-emergency transports in 2016.

More than 200 MRS employees are being welcomed to the Inspira team and will continue to provide high quality EMS and non-emergency transport services to residents of Cumberland and surrounding counties.

They join 134 existing employees in the Inspira Emergency Medical Services and Transportation department. Across its network, Inspira now employees approximately 5,600 clinical and support staff.

“Both Inspira and MRS have a long history of providing excellent medical services to our communities,” said Cumberland County Freeholder Director Joe Derella. “This joining of forces will, over time, bring new and enhanced services to the people of South Jersey. Thank you John Redden, and thank you Millville Rescue Squad for all of the EMS and medical transport services you have provided, and the lives you have saved over the years.”
