Change can feel unsettling, especially when it involves your health care. That's why Inspira Health wants you to know exactly what to expect as we transition to Epic, one of the most widely used electronic health record systems in the country.
“The transition to Epic is intended to make your experience smoother, more connected and easier to manage, from scheduling appointments to reviewing your test results,” said Tony Reed, M.D. Ph.D., MBA, Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs and Chief Quality and Safety Officer at Inspira Health. Here's a look at what's changing, what's staying the same and how you can make the most of what's ahead.
Epic is an electronic health record system used by hospitals, clinics and health networks across the country. It brings your medical information—including your visit history, lab results, medications and upcoming appointments—together in one secure, easy-to-access place. Inspira Health is adopting Epic to strengthen care coordination and provide patients with better tools to manage their health. With Epic, you can view your information and communicate with your providers, check in for your appointments prior to arrival or at one of our kiosks and have easy online access to check your symptoms, complete questionnaires and read educational materials selected by your care providers. Inspira Health is adopting Epic to strengthen care coordination and provide patients with better tools to manage their health.
When your care involves more than one provider or location, your entire care team must have access to the same information. Epic enables real-time information sharing, reducing the risk of missed details and duplicate steps. “This leads to a more streamlined, connected experience every time you seek care,” said Dr. Reed. “It also means that no matter which Inspira location you visit, your care team has the full picture of your health history.”
When is Inspira transitioning to Epic? Inspira Health will transition to Epic on July 25, 2026. As the transition date gets closer, Inspira will share clear instructions about what to expect, how to access MyChart (our new patient portal) and whether there are any steps you should take before the new system goes live.
MyChart is Epic's patient-facing app and online portal. Once registered, you can use MyChart to schedule appointments, view upcoming visits and review your health records from your phone, tablet or computer. You can also send messages to your care team, request prescription refills and check lab results as soon as they're available, without having to make a phone call.
Yes. Your existing health information will carry over to the new system. You do not need to start from scratch or re-enter your personal details. However, only the last three years of health information will be available in your MyChart portal. “If you currently use Inspira's patient portal, you will need to transition to MyChart going forward,” said Dr. Reed. “Keep an eye out for updates from Inspira with clear instructions on setting up and accessing your new account.”
If there is information from your current patient portal that is more than three years old and you want to keep it for your records, you should download or save it before July 25. 2026. You can also request a copy of your medical records before or after the transition. This includes past visit records, lab results and messages you want to keep for reference.
Inspira's team is here to help at every stage. “If you have questions about setting up MyChart or navigating the new system, reach out to your care team or visit InspiraHealth.org,” said Dr. Reed. “Staff at Inspira locations can help answer questions in person, and your provider's office can review the new app and portal with you at an upcoming visit.”
Transitions take a little getting used to, and that's completely normal. What doesn't change is the quality care and personal support you've come to expect from Inspira. This move to Epic is about building a better experience for patients and their care teams—one that keeps your health front and center, no matter where your care takes you. When questions come up, we're here to help.
