Announced today, the Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive awards American hospitals can receive. Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill has been among the best since its opening and has received this distinction twice in the last 3 years. The Top Hospital designation is bestowed by The Leapfrog Group, a national watchdog organization of employers and other purchasers known as the toughest standard-setters for health care safety and quality.
“The safety of our patients, visitors and staff is at the forefront of all that we do, and this recognition by The Leapfrog Group underlines the dedication, hard work and relentless pursuit of excellence exhibited by our team,” said Amy Mansue, president and CEO of Inspira Health. “It’s also a testament not only to the safety and quality of our health care, but also to our commitment of ensuring the health and well-being of the communities we are privileged to serve.”
More than 2,100 hospitals were considered for the award. Among those, Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill is one of the safest hospitals in New Jersey and received a Top Teaching distinction. A total of 132 Top Hospitals were selected, including:
The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology, assessing many areas of hospital performance, including infection rates, practices for safer surgery, maternity care and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors.
Inspira’s residency programs offer one-of-a-kind educational opportunities for young physicians to receive real-world training by working side-by-side with highly skilled and experienced members of Inspira’s medical staff. This year, Inspira’s Mullica Hill campus is training 92 residents in five nationally accredited programs: Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and a Transitional (1-year multispecialty) Internship. Across its network, Inspira is training 266 residents and fellows in 15 nationally accredited programs.
“Protecting patients from preventable harm is the cornerstone of The Leapfrog Group’s mission,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “IMC Mullica Hill has demonstrated that patient safety is their top priority, and we’re truly pleased to recognize them as a Top Hospital this year. Congratulations to hospital staff at all levels who made this national recognition possible.”
To qualify for the distinction, hospitals must rank top among peers on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey – which assesses hospital performance on the highest standards for quality and patient safety – and achieve top performance in their category.
