Endoscopic intragastric balloon placement is a nonsurgical outpatient procedure. Inspira has partnered with Orbera®, the pioneer in intragastric balloon technology, to provide patients with a safe, nonsurgical option when other weight loss methods have failed. Because it is an incision-free procedure, patients face fewer risks than they would with other types of bariatric treatment.
First, the balloon is inserted orally through your esophagus and placed directly into your stomach, where it is then filled with fluid. By taking up space in the stomach, the balloon helps to slow the digestive process. It also encourages proper portion control, allowing you to retrain your brain to better anticipate when you’re getting full. Most patients experience significant results during the first six months and can shed anywhere from 20 to 50 pounds—sometimes even more.
After six months of working with your doctor, dietitian and/or support team to fine-tune your new diet, the balloon is removed—a process that only takes 20 minutes to complete. Over the next six months, you will continue to follow your personalized diet and exercise program to ensure you lose the weight and keep it off.
