Diabetes is a complex disease requiring you to make healthy lifestyle choices every day. Those choices include eating healthy foods, staying physically active, checking your blood sugar and taking your prescribed medications.

What is Diabetes Education Program?

At Inspira, we’re focused on helping you improve your quality of life so you can keep doing what you love. By successfully managing diabetes, you can feel better and lessen your risk of diabetes complications.

Inspira is recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for quality self-management education. We offer diabetes self-management education programs at our medical centers in Elmer, Vineland and Woodbury.

Inspira’s diabetes specialists and instructors will help you learn seven key behaviors that promote blood glucose control:

  • Eating healthy (weight management
  • Staying active
  • Solving problems
  • Coping with diabetes
  • Monitoring blood glucose
  • Understanding medications
  • Reducing risks of complications

Inspira’s diabetes education also includes one-on-one training for insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors and medication management. You can also schedule consultations with our registered dietitians and other diabetic educators.

How the Diabetes Education Program Works

Participants in the diabetes self-management education program attend individual sessions based on their needs. A physician or health insurance referral is required to attend, and the sessions are considered a billable service that will be applied to your insurance.

Inspira Health has locations across South Jersey, which means you never have to travel far when seeking diabetes care. Care and education are easily coordinated between primary care doctors, endocrinologists and other specialists, providing a more seamless patient experience for those diagnosed with diabetes.

If you need training on medical supplies like a continuous glucose monitor or an insulin pump, our specialists can set up in-office consultations with diabetes educators to help. In addition, your physician may recommend meeting with a dietitian, wound care specialist or other specialists to educate you on different aspects of diabetes management.
