Ian Maitin, MD, MBA
Program Director
Ian B. Maitin, MD, MBA, is the Program Director for the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency program at Inspira Health. He is also the Vice Chair of the Neuromusculoskeletal Institute at Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine. He graduated from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University with his MD in 1989 and later obtained an MBA in Healthcare Management from Fox School of Business at Temple University in 2002. Dr. Maitin completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Bryn Mawr Hospital in 1990, followed by his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at JFK Medical Center in 1993.
Triple board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Sports Medicine, and Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Dr. Maitin has dedicated over three decades to medical education and leadership. He previously served as the Program Director of the Temple University-Moss Rehabilitation PM&R residency program for over 30 years and was the Chairman of the PM&R department at Temple University-Moss Rehabilitation from March 2003 to November 2015. He has been recognized with numerous awards, including Philadelphia Magazine’s Top Doc from 2017 to 2023, Best Doctors by Temple University School of Medicine from 2006 to 2020, and Teacher of the Year in 2023 by the Temple PM&R Residency Program. Dr. Maitin is also the Editor-in-Chief of the textbook “Current Diagnosis and Treatment: Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation” and has contributed to several other textbooks, including a chapter on musculoskeletal medicine in “Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Board Review”. In his free time, Dr. Maitin enjoys gardening and running.
Gilbert Siu, DO, PhD
Associate Program Director
Dr. Siu is an Associate Program Director for the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program and an Associate Professor at Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine. He is also the Medical Director and Director of Brain Injury and Stroke Rehabilitation at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Vineland. He graduated from UMDNJ-School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2007 with a Doctor of Osteopathic and a Doctor of Philosophy. He completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at Temple University/Moss Rehab. Dr. Siu is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, with a subspeciality board certification in Brain Injury Medicine. Since joining Rowan University and the Encompass Health team, his clinical focus has been in neurorehabilitation, specifically in brain injury, concussions, stroke, movement disorders and dementia. He has multiple research grants and has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and articles. His research focus is on neurorehabilitation, Alzheimer’s disease, osteopathic medicine, and lymphedema. He serves as the Director of Student and Resident Research. Dr. Siu is also a master educator as a recipient of Rowan's and Inspira Golden Apple Teaching Award, and was an editor and contributor with Kaplan Medical for USMLE and COMLEX.
Altamash Raja, DO, RMSK, CSCS
Associate Program Director
Altamash Raja, DO, RMSK, CSCS, is also an Associate Program Director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Inspira Health. He is also an Associate Professor at Rowan University since August 2022. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Lincoln Memorial University, completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The Johns Hopkins University—where he served as Chief Resident—and pursued a Sports Medicine fellowship at Geisinger University.
Dr. Raja holds a Registered in Musculoskeletal (RMSK) sonography certification and has an extensive background in performance coaching as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He utilizes this expertise to develop personalized rehabilitation plans for his patients. His research primarily focuses on regenerative medicine and ultrasound, and he has numerous publications in these areas. Notably, Dr. Raja led the development of a pioneering hybrid longitudinal ultrasound curriculum during the COVID-19 pandemic at Johns Hopkins, which is now implemented in the Inspira program. He is also the co-host of the Medicine Redefined podcast, where he interviews practitioners who use unconventional approaches to promote health and challenge norms in the healthcare system. When not working on podcast episodes or spending time with family, Dr. Raja enjoys mountain biking in the trails of South Jersey.
